Internal Comms Module

Internal News

Create and publish internal news articles that automatically appear on your digital signage screens. Target news by location and manage editorial access for sub-users.

What does this module do?

The Internal News module lets you manage your own internal news feed. Create news articles that are automatically loaded into templates — effectively turning the system into your organisation's own RSS feed.

  • Location-based targeting — categorise news by location (e.g., city, "Canteen", "Reception") to distribute news to specific screens only
  • Scheduled publishing — set start and end dates for each article to keep information current and automatically expire outdated news
  • Sub-user access (editorial rights) — grant specific users permission to manage only certain news categories. For example, a canteen manager only gets rights to update the "daily menu" for the "Canteen" location
  • Media support — each article can include a title, body text, and an image

How to set up

Follow these steps to start publishing internal news.

Step 1 — Open the module

Navigate to Modules and open the Internal News module.

Step 2 — Configure locations (optional)

Set up the locations relevant to your organisation. This allows you to target news to specific screens (e.g., only showing canteen news on canteen screens).

Step 3 — Create a news article

Create a new article with:

  • Title
  • Body text
  • Image (recommended — templates are often designed to display an image alongside the text)
  • Start date and end date — articles expire automatically

Step 4 — Select a template and publish

Choose a news template from the library. The template will automatically cycle through your published articles.

Template & display

How the module and template work together.

  • Automatic updates — the template checks the module for new articles. As soon as you publish or update an article, it appears on the screens immediately
  • Image layout — templates are typically designed to include an image. Without an image, the layout may adjust (e.g., text aligned differently). Adding an image is recommended for the best visual result
Tip

Use the DS Templates AI feature to help write or optimise your news articles. You can also generate accompanying images using the built-in AI image generator or choose from the Pixabay stock photo library.
